How to do it

    Read the must-haves only

    Ignore fluff. List required skills, years, domain (e.g. BFSI, payments), tools and location. Those are what ATS and recruiters scan for.

    Mirror language — honestly

    If the JD says “TestNG” and your resume only says “Java testing frameworks”, add TestNG where it’s true. Don’t invent experience.

    Score the gap

What “good match” looks like

You don’t need 100%. For most roles, a clear overlap on core skills plus relevant domain is enough. Fix obvious gaps (missing tool names, wrong job titles) before you apply to “reach” roles.

  • • Put the strongest overlapping skills near the top of Skills
  • • Rewrite 2–3 recent bullets using the JD’s verbs and outcomes
  • • Drop unrelated hobbies / old tech that dilute the scan

Should I change my job title on the resume?+
Keep truthful titles. You can add a clarifying line (e.g. “QA Lead / Test Manager”) if your internal title was vague and the market uses a standard name.
How is this different from an ATS score?+
ATS score checks whether machines can parse and rank your file. JD match checks how well your content overlaps one specific job. Do both.
