How to write a cover letter that gets interviews

A cover letter is your chance to explain — in a few lines — why you fit this specific role, something a resume can't do on its own. The best cover letters are short, tailored and evidence-driven. Here is the structure our AI follows, and that you can use yourself:

1. Open with the specific role — not 'To whom it may concern'

Name the exact job title and company in the first line. Generic openings signal a mass-applied letter. If you know the hiring manager's name, use it.

2. Prove two or three matches with evidence

Don't restate your whole resume. Pick the two or three requirements from the job description you match best, and give a concrete result for each — a metric, a project, a scale (e.g. 'led a QA team of 5', 'cut regression time 60%').

3. Mirror the job description's language

Use the same terms the JD uses for skills and tools. It shows you read the posting and helps if the letter is scanned alongside your resume.

4. Keep it to under one page and end with a clear next step

Three short paragraphs is enough. Close by inviting a conversation — confident, not needy. Proofread for the company name (the most common copy-paste mistake).

Cover letter FAQs

How do I write a good cover letter?+
A strong cover letter is short (3 paragraphs), specific and tailored to one job. Paragraph 1: name the exact role and company and open with a genuine hook. Paragraph 2: pick your two or three strongest matches to the job description and back each with evidence. Paragraph 3: a brief, confident close with a call to action. Avoid filler like 'I am writing to express my interest' and never reuse a generic template — recruiters spot it instantly.
Do I still need a cover letter in India in 2026?+
For many online applications it is optional, but a tailored cover letter still helps for competitive roles, career switches, referrals and when you email a hiring manager directly. It is the one place you can explain why you fit this specific role — something a resume alone can't do.
How is an AI cover letter different from a template?+
A template gives everyone the same words with blanks to fill in. Our AI reads your actual resume and the specific job description, then writes a letter that connects your real experience to that role's requirements — so it reads like you wrote it for that job, because it was.
Is the cover letter generator free?+
Yes, you can generate cover letters for free within your monthly limit — no credit card needed. Just upload your resume, search for a job, and open the AI Tools panel on any job card.
